Nagpur News : 22 March, A three and a half month old baby was recently operated in Wockhardt Hospital, Nagpur. The baby, Micah Sekakoni from Uganda, had an 11 mm hole in his heart which was operated by pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Sandeep Khanzode. The parents of child decided to bring him to India for his treatment as post operative care for such high end pediatric surgery is not available in their country. They were advised to get the surgery done in Wockhardt Hospitals, by their local authorities.
“Honestly, we were reluctant to come to Nagpur, India for surgery and wished to go to some bigger city for the same. However, when we started contacting the team of this hospital, we felt quite assured in bringing our child here and getting him treated. This assurance increased even more once we reached the hospital and experienced all the services ourselves” said Charlie Sekakoni, father of Micah.
“We had our own hesitations and concerns about coming to a different country all together where we don’t know anybody and our child is to undergo a major surgery. But, the facilities and staff behavior made us ease down and we felt confident that we are in good hands. In turn, the surgery was actually successful and we are really very glad”, he added.
“The baby had a complex heart disease known as ‘Endocardial cushion defect’ and ‘AV septal defect”, informed, Dr. Sandeep Khanzode, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals, Nagpur. “His mitral valve was straddling a problem which makes surgery difficult. The surgery was done with several minute vigilances and the baby made a very quick recovery”, he added.
