NAGPUR NEWS : Project Manav Hridayantra Wins Hearts and First Prize for DMMC

Recently First-year MBBS students from Datta Meghe Medical College (DMMC), Nagpur have made the institution proud by securing the first prize at the prestigious State-Level Model Making Competition 2025 held at Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College (VPMC), Nashik. The event, organized in collaboration with the APPI Nashik Chapter, witnessed participation from top medical colleges across Maharashtra.

The winning team of Soham Mahajan, Harpreet B Arora, Dhaanya Anand, and Nandini Singh, presented an innovative 3D functional heart model titled Project Manav Hridayantra. The three-stage working model effectively demonstrated the cardiac cycle, making complex physiological processes easier to understand through real-time simulation using syringes, valves, and a motorized system.

The project was developed under the mentorship of Dr. Satish Deopujari, Consultant Paediatrician and Adjunct Faculty in Physiology, along with guidance from Dr. Shubhada Gade, Head of the Department of Physiology, and support from all departmental faculties. The model was specifically designed to make cardiac physiology more interactive and accessible to learners, moving beyond the limitations of textbook-based learning.

The effort and execution of the students were highly appreciated by Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Madhuri Kanetkar, Vice Chancellor of MUHS, who lauded their creativity, conceptual clarity, and technical skill.

Dr. Ujwal Gajbe, Dean of DMMC, congratulated the students and faculty, stating, “This achievement reflects our commitment to fostering innovation and deep understanding in medical education right from the foundational years.”

Dr. Anup Marar, Director, DMIHER (DU), Off Campus, commended the team, saying, “It is heartening to see such scientific enthusiasm and application from first-year students. Their model is not just a project but a tool that can benefit many learners.”
